June news

  It has been so cold!!!! I don't like cold.The only crafting I have been doing is my crochet rug and a bit of cutting. 

I have been doing a lot of soup and stew cooking with the husband going away Monday - ThursdayI cook on the weekend and send him with food and freeze some for a friend that we feed and have enough in the fridge for me for the week as well, I couldn't be bothered cooking just for me.

This years crochet rug is finished, I'm not sure who it's going to but I have enough yarn to make another one.

I think I have truly gone mad, I have decided to do a postage stamp quilt from my scrap bins, I started cutting 1.5" squares and then I bought an accuquilt die which made things a lot easier

This project could take a very long time, I have emptied one bin that's all.

I haven't done any of my June Chookshed Challenge project, I just haven't been feeling it. I also haven't done much of my Blue Basket needleturn quilt

I decided at the end of May I was not going to buy any fabric for the month of June seeing as I'm going to the Sydney Craft Show next week and I will need to save some money, but then I got an email that Gnomeangel was selling off her fabrics at 60% off if you bought a metre, now I went through her shop and made a huge cart and deleted it but then the next day I got a text from my good friend Anorina and I had another look at Gnomeangel's shop and the picture below left was the result it's all very beautiful.

Then last Wednesday a text from Spotlight told me that all quilting fabric was $15 a metre, including wide back so I had to go and have a look seeing as I was in Tamworth for work, I also got 2 new memory foam pillows for the hubby and me for $10 each and also there were cushions @$5 each great as a cushion insert. You should have seen me trying to carry it all as I ran out of the shop after the cushions scanned at $15 and the assistant changed the price but the fabric price also changed to $5 a metre, no guilt here.

I have some mending to do this weekend jeans to hem and a couple of tops to take in.

Well hopefully whatever number Deana draws next week will get worked on.

May Recap

 Well May is gone, I know we all say this but the year is flying by.....

May project for the Chookshed Challenge was my Basket Quilt, I started this one just after I bought my Accuquilt set. Its a bit hard to see on the design bed over the other quilt, I have teal sashing to go and it's a top.

I've lost my sew jo, it's there somewhere but just for handsewing, I have been joining hexie flowers , these were started at work in the afternoons about 2010 and I joined them with grey hexies but I didn't like it so I put the box on top of the bookcase and pulled it down and ripped all the grey hexies out and started to join them again, there's some vintage fabrics there.

We went to the races on the last weekend of May it was a beautiful afternoon and the fashions on the field were interesting all the ladies taking to the stage and assuming the position of legs crossed, I may have made a few disparaging comments because I'm a bithch but I said them very quietly.

A friend in Tamworth had a clean out and I scored this cute tea pot and another friend gave me a sewing machine trolley and about 30 cookbooks

So Deana has drawn no 10 for June my 10 is a redwork Christmas quilt, so I will start to work on that. 

For May I sewed my 30 minutes almost everyday. I made 2 pink 16 patch blocks and 4 bow tie blocks for the RSC.

I made 2 blocks for my bee swap and I have been adding to my crochet rug. 

Enjoy the cold month of June. I am making some chicken and vegies soup tomorrow.

April is over

Well they say time flies faster when you get old, April flew by and I am older I refuse to say I'm old, that is why I work in Aged Care so I will be younger than the people I'm around. HAHA

April challenge for the Chookshed challenge was no 9 for me it was to make a Chandalier Quilt which I cut and took to Scrub Stitchin, unfortunately the fabric gods weren't playing nice and one of my fat quarters was small so I was 2 squares short, I have scraps so I can splice up what's needed, and then when I got home I couldn't find (and still haven't found) the scraps

She is under the needle at the moment waiting for work to finish so I can get back to quilting her,it's big and I love it.

This is Janice's beatiful Laundry Basket designs quilt that she was working on at Scrub Stitchin, then our great goody bags, the little corner that I was in surrounded by Janice's and Chookies quilts. Brenas lovelly embroidered picture embellished with old jewellry, A beautiful Barradine sunset, Tina and Harriet in their Star wars outfits and the room decorated for Saturday night dinner and lastly the braided designs that the girls were making with a jelly roll.

When I got home on the Sunday I discovered that my niece had taken 2 of the little stray kittens home with her so only 5 to get rehomed now.

I haven't been sewing much this past week I think I oversewed to get things done for the show and Scrub Stitchin but I'm getting back into the groove now.

May Chookshed Challenge number is 5 which for me is my Basket quiltI think I have around 29 blocks done I just need to work out whats doing next.

More for March

 I have no idea what I'm doing here sometimes, I wrote a blog post yesterday and it posted on Chookys scrub stitchin blog, so I will try again. I have finished my  Chookshed Stitchers Challenge for March and I am very happy with it.

This was done as a workshop at Coolah Country Patchwork last year, I actually made 2 using the rest of the centre panel so both of my nieces girls will get one each.

I have more than one list for the year I also have a quilting and a binding list and I am getting through them as well. It helps that I am home alone most of the week so I can sew for as long as I want. Yesterday I finished this row quilt and I will do the binding next week while watching tv.

This was done in a mystery quilt workshop in Gunnedah in 2021, I have quilted very simply across the quilt on the teal seams.

I dot an email today saying that I won a fatquarter pack of Island Batik fabrics from the SAHRR, which is still on the design wall. Yay! 

This huge pumpkin was the last one from last year it smelt beautiful when I cut it , I gave a quarter to a friend last weekend and the youngest son is coming up for the easter weekend so thaty can have some and we will eat the rest. We are going to the rifle range for the morning on Saturday ouor friend works there and Dave and Brad will have a go with Dave's rifles but I'm going to play with our friends hand gun I can't wait I wasn't that keen to shoot with the rifles fearing the kick would agravate my shoulder but now I am keen. There's another beautiful sunrise. Happy Easter!

March Catch up

 This was the sunrise this morning, if I wasn't in my pj's I would have driven up to the lookout for more pics, never mind.

So this month in the Chookshed Stitchers Challenge I have finished the quilting on a panel quilt for my grat niece, the binding is on and the hand sewing has started.

 I have also finished a By Annie Ultimate Travel Bag, it was a lot of work but I'm very happy with it. You know in all patterns they say read all the instructions first well that just confuses me but with this one I wish I had done it, the last page of the instructions there is a page with labels on it and it says to copy the page and cut the labels before cutting fabric...... that would have been helpful I thought of making my own labels but I would have had to number everything too much work, anyway it is done and has been entered in Mendoran Show this weekend.

A friend and I went to Craft Alive in Tamworth last weekend, it wasn't a very big show but there was a variety of shops there, I bought a cute cot panel from Logans Patchwork and also an aussie Christmas panel. I just need someone to have a baby now.

February Done and Dusted

 Goodbye Feb you hot month, I will not miss you. This was a lovely sunrise that I captured. The garden is struggling it has been so hot and dry.

I finished the top of my No 2 in the Chookshed Challenge and I am very happy with it, it will hopefully get quilted very soon and gifted to our friend in Wollongong who always lets us stay at her place when we go down adn she is letting Dave live there half the week while he's at work. This is a free pattern by Lella Boutique, I started it at Scrub Stitchin last year and finished it in February.

I have been binding like mad while watching telly finishing quilts that will be going in the Gunnedah Show this year, the first is the Kinship Fusion quilt whish was a sewalong as a block a day for 100 days run by @gnomeangel. I started it in July 2019, finished the top at the end of 2019 got it quilted last year and now it's a finished quilt

The fabric shop in Gunnedah is closing but the had a sale I spent February and March's fabric budget on some widebacks, neutrals and pretty colours to go in the stash. I truly don't know why it doesn't get smaller haha.

    

This quilt was a stash buster that was meant to be a rainbow style but I got carried away cutting yellows and oranges, I have a box of green waiting for the white to be cut too. It is finished.

My SAHRR quilt has stopped it was too hot to sew when the rounds were announced I have them cut they will get done this month I hope.
